1. Educational purpose only
The Book describes one maker's methods, opinions, and preferences. It is not professional advice and is not a substitute for the safety data sheets (SDS), warning labels, and instructions supplied with your wax, fragrance, wicks, dyes, equipment, and containers. Where the Book and a manufacturer's instructions disagree, follow the manufacturer.
2. Fire, heat & hot-wax safety
- Never leave melting wax or a burning candle unattended.
- Melt wax gently using a double-boiler method; never melt wax directly over an open flame or in a way that can exceed its flash point.
- Keep a suitable fire extinguisher nearby. Never use water on a wax or grease fire.
- Work in a ventilated area, away from drafts, flammable materials, children, and pets.
- Hot wax causes burns. Use heat-resistant gloves, protect surfaces, and let equipment cool fully before handling.
- Always test-burn finished candles in a safe, controlled setting before use or gifting.
3. No health or medical claims
References to "clean," "non-toxic," or "natural" describe ingredient choices and are not medical, health, or safety guarantees. The Book makes no claim that any candle, wax, fragrance, or essential oil will treat, cure, prevent, or diagnose any condition. Fragrance oils and essential oils can cause irritation or allergic reactions and may be harmful to some people or animals. Consult a qualified professional regarding any health concern, allergy, pregnancy, or sensitivity.
4. Fragrance, IFRA & regulations
Fragrance load percentages, flash points, and IFRA guidance in the Book are general starting points. Always verify the current IFRA documentation and usage rates for your specific fragrance from your supplier, and comply with all laws and regulations that apply to you.
5. Selling candles
The chapter on selling is an introduction only. If you make or sell candles, you are solely responsible for compliance with all applicable laws, including labeling, warning-label, allergen-disclosure, weights- and-measures, insurance, and consumer-safety requirements in your jurisdiction. Consult qualified legal and insurance professionals before selling.
6. No guarantees & limitation of liability
Results vary. We make no guarantee of specific cost savings, candle quality, or income. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Candice and The $3 Luxury Candle disclaim all liability for any loss, injury, property damage, or other harm arising from the use or misuse of the Book or its contents. You assume all risk associated with candle making.
